The energetic composite slurry based on hydroxyl terminated polybutadiene (HTPB) should have a good viscosity at the end of the mixing to show suitable castability. The availabe time for appropriate casting of energetic composite after curing agent addition is called pot life. A short Review the effect of microstructural parameters of HTPB on the pot life of energetic composites is so important. The microstructural parameters of HTPB include average molecular weight (numerical and weighted), molecular weight distribution, hydroxyl content (value), high molecular weight fraction, distribution of functionality and its type, and relative concentration of microstructures (cis/trans/vinyl). The long pot life of a HTPB-based energetic composite is essential for easier processability and production of non-defective grains, particulary large sizes. In this paper, microstructural parameters of HTPB are introduced, the effect of each of them on the pot life of energetic composites binder system is investigated. This was showed that it is possible to control the life of the HTPB-based energetic composite binder system by rearrangemet of prepolymer microstructure without any decrease of mechanical properties. Reviews have showed that with increasing average molecular weight and amount of hydroxyl of HTPB, pot life decreases, and low-functional species will increase the pot life of energetic composites.
